ABOUT KEVIN

Growing up in Harlem, Kevin was raised by his mother and grandmother—the two most resilient people he's ever known. In his freshman year at St. John's University, Kevin's grandmother passed away. During the toughest time of his life, he remembered two things his grandmother told him nearly every day: get a good education and do good things.

When he was the first in my family to graduate college, Kevin's mother told him, "Kevin, this is the proudest moment of my life." And that moment has stuck with him for his entire life. His academic pursuits equipped him with critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of legal matters. These qualifications empowered him to approach law enforcement with a holistic perspective—one which considers the rights and well-being of all citizens.

In his junior year of high school, he met a New York State Trooper who told him one day Kevin would be doing what he was. After Kevin graduated from college, he became a New York State Peace Officer in 1990, but it still didn't feel quite right. Something was missing. Kevin decided it was time to go back home.

In 2003, Kevin moved back home to Savannah and began coaching youth basketball and teaching as a substitute—two extremely rewarding experiences. He also was proud to stand alongside some of our community's greatest volunteer organizations during this time because standing up for others has always been important to him.

Kevin holds an associate's degree in liberal arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies from St. John's University of New York. He is married to his wife, Charlene, and has four children.
